3-Day Cruise

Day 1, Monday

Today you commence your three-day jungle safari with a 2:30 PM embarkation at the Tropical Hotel Pier. You will be presented on board to the staff, and given an orientation of the route and facilities. Commence your adventure with navigation in the Xiborena and Careiro region to Curari. You will have a canoe trip up smaller creeks to see life on the flood plains: jute, market garden produce, rubber trees, as well as flood plain forest and lakes with giant water lilies. The trip returns after sunset, so that you can observe night life, including caymans. Navigation up the Amazon (upper part of it is called Rio Solimoes by the natives) to Lake Janauaca. Dinner and overnight on board. (D)

Day 2, Tuesday
Early morning canoe trip for bird watching. There are good chances of seeing hoatzins and large flocks of egrets and cormorants. Breakfast on board, and then a visit to the inhabitants of the lake who live from manioc plantations, fishing, diverse fruit trees, rubber, Brazil-nut plantations, wood and other extractive products. Walk in the forest with commentaries by the specialist guide. Lunch on board, and navigation, with time to fish for piranhas or other types of fish from on board. After dinner, you'll have a night trip to see nocturnal animals, including night hawks, snakes, toro-rats, sloths, and frogs. Navigation downstream on the Amazon. (B, L, D)

Day 3, Wednesday
Early morning bird-watching trip in the January Ecological Park or nearby waterways. Breakfast on board, and then navigation past Manaus port to the Tropical Hotel pier, with views of the floating docks, market, and a houses on stilts, arriving at 11:30 am.  (B)

4-Day Cruise

Day 1, Wednesday
Begin your four-day jungle safari with a 2:00 pm embarkation at the Tropical Hotel Pier. On board, you will be presented to the staff, acquainted with the route, and given an orientation of the facilities. Navigate the Pogodao River (a tributary of the Rio Negro) until shortly before sunset. Pause to explore the river by canoe into the dark of early night. Perceive the forest's change as night falls, and watch for nocturnal animals. Return to the ship for dinner, and continue on to Acu Creek. (D)

Day 2, Thursday
After breakfast, follow your specialist guide on a walking tour into the forest. Pass through tropical vegetation, and visit a caboclo (indigenous) family. Take a glimpse into the local way of life, see the preparation of manioc flour (staple of the Amazon), and learn about the children's health and education. Afterward, lunch on the ship, as you cruise through the Anavilhanas, the world's largest freshwater archipelago, more than 1000 miles from the ocean. Then, visit the village of Novo Airao, its boat yards that built the Amazon Clipper, its sawmills, its market, and other points of interest. Afterward, dine on board, and then take a night trip to view caiman and, depending on the season, frogs, sloths, snakes, and other species, as well. (B, L, D)

Day 3, Friday
Visit the village of Novo Airão, with its handicraft boat yards, sawmills, market and other activities. Lunch. Navigation to Praia Grande or other white sandy beach. Swimming if conditions permit, and observation of the vegetation of sandy areas. Canoe trip in Acajatuba Lake to see typical flora (rubber trees, Brazil nuts, useful palm trees of various types). Afternoon fishing for piranhas. Dinner. Night trip to observe caimans. (B, L, D)

Day 4, Saturday
Rise early for a dawn bird watching tour by canoe on Lake January. Afterward, return to the ship for breakfast, and continue on to the 'Meeting of the Waters', where the muddy water of the Amazon River and the black water of the Rio Negro meet and flow together in bi-colored swirls and eddies for miles before combining. Finally, return to the Tropical Hotel pier along the Manaus waterfront. Arrive at about 11:30 am. (B)

6-Day Cruise

Day 1, Monday

Here you will say good-bye to some friends, and greet new friends who will be boarding, before sailing again at 2:30 pm. Now you will navigate the Ariau River, take a short canoe visit on shore before dinner. After dark you will return by canoe on the river, with the possibility of observing nocturnal animals. Then the Clipper will begin navigation of Acu Creek. (B, L, D)

Day 4, Thursday
Early morning bird-watching trip in the January Ecological Park or nearby waterways. Afternoon navigation upstream to the Pagodao river (tributary of the Rio Negro) for a short canoe trip before sunset, returning after dark. You will have the chance to observe the nocturnal animals, and the changes in the forest as night falls. (B, L, D)

Day 5, Friday
Navigation to Praia Grande (a white sand beach) and swimming if conditions permit, and observation of the vegetation of sandy areas. Then take a canoe trip to Lake Acajituba and adjacent domains to see typical flora (rubber trees, Brazil nuts, useful palm trees of various types). Lunch on board, and then a stop at the Paricatuba community to see old abandoned rubber-boom buildings, now overgrown with strangler figs. Dinner and navigation. (B, L, D)

Day 6, Saturday
Sunrise canoe trip of Lake January for bird watching. Breakfast, and then navigation to the 'Meeting of the Waters', a phenomenon where the muddy water of the Amazon River meets with the black water of the Rio Negro, and run together in bi-colored swirls and eddies for miles before mixing. Return to the Tropical Hotel pier with fine views of the Manaus waterfront en route, arriving about 11:30 am. (B)
